First Resonance is seeking a Data Engineering Intern to join our team this summer at our headquarters in Los Angeles, CA and to help revolutionize next generation manufacturing software with ION. The Data Engineering Intern will assist in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable ETL processes and data pipelines. The successful candidate will work closely with our data team to optimize data storage and retrieval using distributed systems and cloud technologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements and ensure data quality.

Things you will do:

Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL processes and data pipelines
Optimize data storage and retrieval using distributed systems and cloud technologies
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements and ensure data quality
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data processing issues
Continuously refine and optimize data engineering practices and tools

Skills you will develop:

Programming skills in Python or other relevant languages for data processing
SQL, ETL development and tooling (some DBT)
Exposure to distributed systems and cloud technologies (AWS)
Gain an understanding of data warehousing concepts and best practices
Build knowledge of system orchestration tooling (Airflow, Luigi, etc.)

It helps if you are interested / have some background in:

Distributed data storage systems (Snowflake, Apache Druid, AWS Redshift)
Modern data stores and file formats (Delta, Iceberg, etc.)
Data modeling, schema design, and data normalization techniques
Stream processing tools & frameworks (Apache Kafka, Debezium, Spark Streaming)
Distributed Big Data tools (Trino, Apache Spark)
Machine learning frameworks and tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch)
Building enterprise applications or working in a manufacturing environment

Qualifications

Must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in an engineering, physics or math discipline by the start of employment
Able to work full time, onsite for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks beginning mid June 2023
Able to work onsite at Downtown LA HQ for a minimum of 2-3 days per week
Must be a U.S. citizen
