We're on a mission
We spend 90,000+ hours of our lifetime working. Those hours are what contribute to humanity’s progress. The technological, philosophical, economic, and humanitarian progress our world sees comes largely from the working part of each human’s day. But today, 85% of global workers report feeling disengaged at work. That 85% includes millions of brilliant minds who are not getting what they need from their work life, and therefore not giving their full potential to this earth. Imagine if we could help workers everywhere to find work they loved, and to navigate the inevitable challenges of work life while remaining engaged and contributing. How much more progress could be made towards the world’s most pressing problems? Here at Crew, we’re on a mission to help millions of people find and maintain joy and fulfilment in their work.
What is Crew
Crew is an early-stage startup building a career design platform. Our platform provides tools, coaching, and peer connection to help people discover and stay connected to the things that truly matter in one’s career. If LinkedIn is your public facing professional persona, think of Crew and our proprietary Career Canvas as your internal persona that keeps track of all your strengths and achievements. Instead of scrolling job postings and other people’s updates on LinkedIn, you come here to find clarity and confidence in your work.
Today we do this through group coaching programs that apply the principles of design thinking to career exploration. Customers are matched into crews of 5 - 8 professional peers. Crews meet weekly, with meetings facilitated by executive coaches who guide them in the career design process. As we grow, we're building our community, developing our product, and exploring which career topics to tackle next.
We're a global team of designers, builders, coaches, and educators, obsessed with making career design easy, fun, and social. Our vision is to be every professional’s career partner from college to retirement.
This Role
Fresh off our pre-seed fundraise, we are ready to bring on our first full-time team members. We are looking for a customer-obsessed Growth Marketer Generalist to own customer acquisition/marketing and to chime in on other areas of the business as needed. Working closely with our co-founders, this person will take ownership of customer acquisition metrics and also contribute to increasing customer love. The other half of this role will be more generally focused on business operations (akin to a Chief of Staff).
This is an experiment-oriented role. It will be this person’s mandate to design and run experiments to help us determine our best customer acquisition channels. This person will also work closely with our customers and engineering team to continue developing the product. This role is a hands-on, highly creative, bias-for-action, and take full ownership kinda role. As one of our first hires, this person will help define the company’s vision and culture.
Responsibilities
Work cross-functionally, collaborating with the co-founders, coaches, operations & engineering teams to build something people love.
Contribute to and/or lead a variety of new projects across the business, as they arise.
With the Crew co-founders and team, setup early marketing endeavours such as content creation/posting, landing page testing, social media strategy, and much more.
Drive the growth experimentation process, from identifying opportunities to forming and validating data-driven hypotheses. Capture insights from experiments’ successes and failures, and communicate them to the broader team.
Foster customer love for our products, including designing and executing customer research, measuring key metrics, and helping narrow our target customer.
Take responsibility for company administrative activities such as managing service providers (accountants, payroll SaaS, banks, etc.), bookkeeping, reporting, and others.
Assist with organizational and talent functions such as employee onboarding, company rituals and culture design/documentation, offsite planning, employee benefits, and more.
Create and maintain processes and systems to build routine and rigour into our company’s operational DNA. These might include things like team meeting agendas, cleaning up shared drives and documents, testing and selecting the best tools for collaboration, documenting ways of working, and keeping tabs on how to improve work setups for our team.
Be an active voice for career design, both within our growing community and beyond. This could include frequent posts on social media, creating thought leadership, speaking at events, and helping us create the career design category.
Customer Obsession. You are obsessed with our customers, their needs, and solving these needs in the most customer-centric way.
Deep belief in our mission & excitement for our vision. We believe that the combination of crews, coaching, and career design will help millions of people lead happier, more fulfilling careers. You’ve seen the power of these elements and want to spend your own career working towards this mission.
Data-driven and process-oriented. You have the analytical skills to manage projects independently end-to-end. You are data-driven in your decision-making, and you make thoughtful recommendations on how to iterate your strategy based on your learnings.
Bias for action. You have an experimentation mindset, and you don't wait to take initiative. You can operate well in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment where change is commonplace.
Storytelling & Communication. You have strong oral and written communication skills. You can craft a compelling narrative both orally and written. You make colleagues, coaches, and customers feel comfortable and empowered through your content and conversation.
Nice to Have’s
Experience building & testing growth channels. You know how to build and test customer acquisition channels, ideally for both B2C and B2B. You have experience working in growth for an early stage product or venture.
Early stage startup experience. You come with learnings from building companies and products in a similar stage to ours.
Why you might be excited about this role
You thrive in early stage startups where you have lots of ownership and can contribute to the company’s vision and culture from the beginning.
You want to work primarily remotely. We are a remote team who gets together every few months. We are currently only hiring in the U.S.
You are fascinated by how work is changing, and want to be a part of the future of work, both in terms of the products we build and the way we design our own company and work.
Why you might not be excited about this role
We are a young company, you will be one of our first three full-time hires. If you prefer more established companies and plans, this role isn’t for you.
We're an early-stage startup. Projects and priorities are likely to will certainly shift.
Our team is extremely mission-driven and we work incredibly hard towards our big ambitions. This is not a phone-it-in kinda gig.
You should be comfortable with ambiguity. This is not the kind of job where you show up and we tell you exactly what to do every day.
