Clinical Data Quality Manager
AllStripes
PicnicHealth is simplifying clinical research with AI, making it faster and cheaper to get new treatments to patients. We’re bringing a patient-centered, AI-first approach to a $100b market otherwise dominated by old-school, services-driven incumbents. We’re creating a streamlined operating system for clinical research, built on top of our AI for medical record data in trials and a personal health assistant that keeps patients engaged (NPS 66).
Founded in 2014, PicnicHealth has raised over $100 million from investors including YC, Amplify Partners, Felicis Ventures and B Capital Group. Our business running observational studies more than doubled last year and we expect to grow even faster this year. We've gained real traction in a conservative industry: 12 of the top 20 pharma companies use PicnicHealth, we've got 60+ publications across 40 disease areas, and we just had our first FDA approval that included our data in the submission.
The Opportunity
Join PicnicHealth as a Clinical Data Quality Manager/Senior Manager on our Data Management Team and leverage your clinical expertise to advance observational research. In this role, you’ll serve as a clinical expert, providing critical insights into study design, data collection, and data quality across our growing portfolio of observational research studies. Your ability to interpret and communicate complex medical information will directly contribute to the success of our research studies, ultimately enabling us to deliver meaningful insights to our life sciences customers and advance healthcare outcomes.
What we’re looking for in the Clinical Data Quality Manager Role:
- Strong clinical experience across multiple therapeutic areas
- Experience leveraging clinical expertise to enable study design, data collection and abstraction, and data quality initiatives for real-world data and / or observational research studies
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex clinical information for clinicians and non-clinicians alike
- High attention to detail, with a passion for high quality work
Over the next 12 months, you will be focused on:
- Providing critical clinical input on the development of study protocols, data models, and case report forms, ensuring feasibility and alignment with research objectives
- Leading the development of record retrieval and abstraction completion guidelines and training materials to ensure consistent, high-quality data collection from medical records
- Serving as a clinical escalation point for our abstraction teams within the United States and the Philippines throughout the study lifecycle
- Applying clinical knowledge to contribute to the development of robust, disease-specific quality control rules and data review plans to ensure clinical accuracy
- Contributing to data management and quality initiatives across the organization, helping to establish efficient processes and procedures
- Collaborating with internal study teams to review and interpret study data
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with crossfunctional study teams across abstraction, operations, epidemiology, biostatistics, project management, and product teams to facilitate seamless study execution
You’ll be successful if you have:
- A bachelor’s degree in nursing or advanced practice degree (e.g. NP, PA, DNP, or equivalent) with at least 3 years of clinical experience
- Experience designing or working with case report forms (CRFs) and CRF completion guidelines to support clinical research
- Experience developing training materials to communicate complex clinical concepts to other clinicians and scientists
- Experience working with and interpreting clinical research data
- The ability to work independently across multiple concurrent projects
- Intellectual curiosity and a flexible mindset with the ability to balance shifting priorities to meet or exceed expectations
- Interest in learning new technologies and AI-driven tools to optimize your workstreams
We expect all team members to be motivated to be amazing in their roles and, ultimately, to move the PicnicHealth mission forward.
Why will PicnicHealth win in Clinical Research?
Trials are a major bottleneck in drug development, and the promising advancements in biotech cannot achieve their full potential unless clinical research becomes more effective. The industry runs on outdated technology and manual processes. Research sites (hospitals, academic centers, doctors' offices) are a major bottleneck, and contract research organizations (CROs) spend most of their time wrangling sites and cobbling together vendor software.
PicnicHealth has built technology that uniquely positions us to run faster, cheaper, and more flexible studies without requiring sites:
- PicnicAI (trained on 350M+ clinician annotations over 100k+ patient records) is the only system that can effectively access and structure all participant EMR data trials need
- Our AI health assistant (NPS of 66 in 2024) guides participants through study activities and enables most to be done at home
- We're an integrated solution — virtual site, CRO, and software platform — with AI built in from the ground up, initially focusing on observational research.
